On this episode, we could not resist but put our own spin on the Megan McArdle piece "Why is Italian Food So Amazing?" Many people have dragged this inane, illiterate and insane take on Italian food before. Luckily for us, Mary Angela Perna hadn't seen the article until last week giving us a fresh opportunity to drag the hell out of this nonsense. Please excuse some background noise on this track as I was literally making lasagna during this recording.
We highly recommend the Chapo Trap House episode with Tim Faust for a very entertaining take on this article. We love those guys.
In this piece, she builds a 10 layered lasagna of bad takes, hackneyed ethnic stereotypes, childlike understandings of history and geography and much much more. Megan McArdle who has never encountered a situation where either removing government interference or wasn't quite ripe for government intervention advocates for an Italian trail of tears like forced relocation program to help the tasteless rubes of middle America get good cold cuts. Apparently, Meghan's never been to Philadelphia or really anywhere. Mary Angela Perna and David Slavick who are both angry Italians spend an hour dismantling this piece with surgical cruelty. You won't want to miss it.
