The Atlanta Falcons have to make a decision this offseason involving their quarterback position, and it begins with their evaluation of rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder. Despite a small sample size, Ridder showed a lot of promise, especially in critical-down situations. Stats show he was not only an upgrade over Marcus Mariota in those situations but is off to a better start in his first four games than Matt Ryan was during his first month back in 2008. Aaron Freeman breaks it down along with why he thinks Ridder is likely to be the team's Week 1 starter in 2023. But that may depend on the availability of alternative options this offseason such as Lamar Jackson, Ryan Tannehill, Derek Carr, Bryce Young, Will Levis, Anthony Richardson, and C.J. Stroud. He looks at veteran backup options like Mitchell Trubisky and Chase Daniels and whether Marcus Mariota could return in a diminished role in 2023.
