Martin Luther King Jr. evokes a kind of nostalgia for the idealistic days of the anti-war movement and freedom marches. Yet during his lifetime, Dr. King was far from universally loved, even in the black community. His experience was not unlike the prediction of theologian Matthew Fox, who said to a Unity Institute® classroom, "No prophet goes through life unscathed." In this week's program, Dr. Shepherd will be joined by a panel of UI students to discuss Dr. King's legacy in preparation for Unity Institute's Martin Luther King Day observance. The Rev. Michael Moran, keynote speaker at UI's King observance, will be joining the conversation from California. Another special guest will be Jacquelyn Hawkins, UI student who was a member of Dr. King's congregation during those turbulent, world-changing days. |
