Homework can extinguish curiosity but research has not shown any gains - on average- for homework. The data don't support the benefits "a second shift" of academic work after a full day in school. Excessive homework can create anxiety, depression and loss of self-esteem. Even kids who do homework well, see it as something to get over so they can move on to things they care about.
