Description: The Warburg Institute Conference - Translation and the Circulation of Knowledge in Early Modern Science Panel 1: Perspectives on translation Chair: Guido Giglioni (Warburg Institute) Niall Hodson (Durham University) - Henry Oldenburg as a translator In recent decades, scholars have offered myriad new insights into the exchange and propagation of scientific ideas in the early modern Republic of Letters. Within this vibrant field, however, the part played by translation and translators remains little studied. This colloquium will explore the role of translation in early modern science, providing a forum for discussion about translations as well as the translators, mediators, agents, and interpreters whose role in the intellectual history of the period remains ill defined and deserves greater attention.
