June was Amber's month and she chose Body Image as the topic. We were joined by Dee of PaganFM, Me (Lamyka), Rianna of The Pagan Homesteader, & Sorcha of Wicked Podcast. Dee was a last minute addition so her audio is a bit scratchy in some places but not enough to want to stab yourself in the face. Below is a reprint from the FB Event, so don't forget that every month a public event is created on FB which you can sign up for:
As the summer season hits, women are flooded with skinny girls in bikini's and told to "shape up for summer" As women, we have tons of different messages from several different sources. We're told to treat our bodies as temples, love them as they are, starve them into beauty, be curvy, be skinny, eat what you crave, diet, exercise as much as you can, don't look too manly, make sure you wear the right color make up this year...With all these conflicting messages, how do we, as Pagan Women cope?Do we feel that the media images and photoshopped models are too much? Or a necessary evil?Do we feel that there is, in fact, and ideal body shape for us to work towards?Does a Barbie body equal healthy? As far as diet's go, is there a healthy diet that is good for everyone? Or what constitutes a healthy diet? What about vitamin supplements and weight loss pills? What are your biggest hurdles in trying to eat healthy? How do we view exercise and do we get enough of it?How does body image and body health effect our lives as pagans? Rituals, community, ect...Often, pagan women are stereotyped as overweight women in tye-dye...is this stereotype accurate? Why has this come about and should we try to change it?How do we think body image is changing through the future generations?
