Exploring The Soul - Part 18
"Broken Shards"
(Recorded at the Intown Jewish Academy on July 16, 2017)
Sometimes an event can seem completely terrible, but in truth be the greatest moment. Sometimes things seem irredeemably broken, but in truth they are more whole than ever.
When Moses broke the Tablets upon descending from Mt. Sinai and beholding the sin of the Golden Calf, it would have seemed to be a disaster of national and historical proportions. G-d's writing, G-d's handiwork, broken in a million little pieces at the foot of the mountain.
But from the shards rose new life. The Kabbalists teach that as the Tables were shattering, a light never seen before was emanating from their core. A light that would ultimately form the nucleus of the teachings of Kabbalah.
In this session of Kabbalah & Coffee we trace the origins of the Kabbalah to a surprisingly dark moment in Jewish history, and discover how brokenness can lead to the greatest wholeness. |
