This week, the Central Valley town of Hanford became the latest jurisdiction to oppose California’s sanctuary state laws, including SB54. It’s now part of a growing number of cities and counties taking this step. A group of California elected officials from those communities was invited to the White House yesterday to discuss how they can work with the federal government.

One of the first municipalities to adopt ordinances opposing those laws is the Orange County city of Los Alamitos. The mayor there is Troy Edgar; he was also at the White House meeting. Edgar urged the Trump Administration to help pay for lawsuits his city is facing.

In the Central Valley, this kind of food assistance is a big factor in keeping people out of poverty.
