That’s more than twice the amount that had burned by this point last year. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen is telling California residents to prepare for future major disasters. She toured Shasta county on Friday, where the Carr Fire has scorched more than 200,000 acres and killed eight people. Nielsen met with Governor Jerry Brown as part of her trip to the state. That means the case will likely go to trial.
