Description:

Footage discovered at the Alemany Flea Market provides a rare look at San Francisco in the weeks following the 1906 earthquake. “San Francisco, 1906” consists of a hypnotic ride down Market Street through crowds and rubble, and serves as a companion piece to the better-known “A Trip Down Market Street Before the Fire.” A newly restored version of “San Francisco, 1906” plays the San Francisco Silent Film Festival this weekend. Forum discusses the restoration process for this and other films at the festival and ponders the value of silent films today.

Guests:
Rob Byrne, film restorer, board president, San Francisco Silent Film Festival
Mick LaSalle, film critic,  San Francisco Chronicle
