‘BBQ’N While Black’ Rallies Continue After Racially-Charged Lake Merritt Confrontation

Category: News & Politics
Duration: 00:28:15
Publish Date: 2018-05-18 12:30:00
Description:

Rallies near Oakland’s Lake Merritt continued this week, after a white woman called the police last month to report an African-American family using a charcoal grill where only propane grills are allowed. The rallies come as a series of racially-charged police calls have made national headlines, including a white Yale student who called campus police last week to complain about a black student who had fallen asleep in their dorm’s common area. We’ll discuss the Lake Merritt incident and dissect the race and power dynamics that emerge when a white person calls the police on people of color.
