The suspected driver of a van that killed ten people in Toronto on Monday may have links to an online community whose members call themselves “involuntary celibates,” or “incel.” Minutes before driving into the crowd, the driver praised a shooter who killed six students in Isla Vista in 2014, writing on Facebook that “The Incel Rebellion has already begun.” We’ll discuss the ideology behind incel and what connections exist, if any, between the Isla Vista and Toronto incidents.
