In a tweet early Tuesday morning, President Trump dismissed Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and replaced him with CIA director Mike Pompeo. Tillerson’s ouster follows a tumultuous tenure marked by ongoing conflict between the State Department and White House. The President also named CIA deputy director Gina Haspel to succeed Pompeo, a move that drew swift criticism from civil liberties advocates who point to Haspel’s involvement in CIA torture programs.
