Historian Michael Beschloss Explores Burden, Power of Wartime Presidents

Category: News & Politics
Duration: 00:52:54
Publish Date: 2018-10-16 13:00:00
Description: In his new book, "Presidents of War," Michael Beschloss writes about nine commanders-in-chief who have faced the heavy burden of war. But as much as Beschloss describes the mental and physical toll war takes on individual presidents, he also writes that wars are increasingly entered into at the behest of the president, not Congress. Beschloss joins us to talk about the decisions wartime presidents have struggled with throughout history, from the War of 1812 to the present day, and whether going to war is still subject to the will of the American people.
