Shared Spaces

Category: News & Politics
Duration: 00:18:59
Publish Date: 2018-08-28 15:00:00
Description: Blind people know the theory. The term "shared spaces" is a blurring of the lines between the road and the pavement, the thinking being that if cyclists, drivers and pedestrians simply slow down and look at each other - all will be well. It's a theory that has dictated more than a hundred planning projects in towns across the UK - but that theory breaks down if you're blind or partially sighted. As a new government strategy calls for a halt to new shared space schemes we check out a project in Lancashire - and talk to Lord Holmes whose 2015 report Accidents By Design called for their abolition. Presented by Peter White Produced by Kevin Core.
