He served as CEO for 2008 Rupiah Banda for President Campaign and successfully helped him win the election. Dr. Chitala who was the longest serving deputy minister in the Chiluba government, also served as the Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary to Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Chad, Mauritania & Western Sahara Republic during the Mwanawasa administration. His latest book, "Not Yet Democracy" is said to be critical of the Rupiah Banda government.
