Join us for a conversation with Dr. Venus Mahmoodi* and Sheikh Faiyaz Jaffer as we explore where depression comes from, what it feels like, and how to treat it. *About Venus Mahmoodi: Venus Mahmoodi, Ph.D. is a psychologist at the Khalil Center and specializes in reproductive mental health, which focuses on the menstrual cycle, pregnancy and postpartum, infertility, and menopause. She treats patients with a wide range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, psychotic disorders, and emotional dysregulation from various conditions. Her diverse clinical and diagnostic expertise ranges from working with refugees and torture survivors to veterans and perinatal women. She also provides training focused on women’s mental health, including mood and anxiety disorders in adult and adolescent parents. Dr. Mahmoodi completed her Ph.D. in clinical psychology with an emphasis on women’s mental health at Palo Alto University and her pre-doctoral internship at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. She is currently completing her post-doctoral fellowship at the Seleni Institute, where she primarily focuses on maternal mental health and infertility. Her dissertation topic focused on the perinatal experiences of Muslim women living in the United States.
