Description:

In the 12th episode of the Historic Performance Podcast, I interview Paul Heckingbottom.   Paul is a former English professional soccer player, who came up through the Manchester United Academy.  In his 15 year career, he played over 500 1st team matches with a variety of clubs including Sunderland, Darlington, Norwich City, Sheffield Wednesday, and Barnsley. Currently, Paul is the Senior Development Coach at Barnsley FC where he coaches the U-21 team & assists with the 1st team.

I was introduced to Paul Heckingbottom by Paul Bower, who was previously on the podcast and is the Head of Academy Sports Science & Medicine at Barnsley Football Club.  To be honest, this is perhaps one of the best episodes on the podcast so far, so thank you Paul Bower!

In this episode, Paul talks about the challenges of switching from being a professional soccer player to a soccer coach, creating a winning mentality within a team, his thoughts on the role of sports science in soccer, and advice to players that are looking to play professionally.
