In the 17th episode of the Historic Performance Podcast, I interview Derek Salvador. Derek is a Canadian soccer fitness coach, who works with Oakville Soccer Club (OPDL) and KW United (USL-PDL). I met Derek Salvador over Twitter. After some conversations, I realized that it would be great to have Derek on the podcast due to his experience with the United Soccer League - Premier Development League. The USL-PDL is a unique league that caters itself to college student-athletes and amateurs, who want to play soccer during the summer and have aspirations to turn professional. In this episode, Derek discusses the challenges of working with players in the USL-PDL, fatigue management, and sports psychology.
