ベトナム出身のアンと、フィンランド出身のミロをお迎えしての第2回をお届けします。今回の話題は「ベトナムとフィンランドの食べ物」。

to be into (something)
= to be doing (something) in detail, and usually liking it

stuff
= things

= approximately that

for a second
= for a short time, for a minute

Irish stew
= a stew often with lamb, potatoes, onions and parsley in it

pickled cucumbers
= キュウリの漬物

lingonberry jam
= jam made with berries similar to cranberries. It is popular in northern Europe and can be eaten with many types of food, including meatballs, stew, pancakes, and fish.

IKEA
= a Swedish furniture company. They have about 10 stores in Japan.

Nordic food
= food from countries in the north Atlantic, including Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, and Greenland

spicy
= hot, 辛い

a delicacy
= a special, high-quality food

spices
= 香辛料

humid
= 湿気のある

the smell
= 匂い

a wok
= a large bowl-shaped pan used for stir-frying(炒め)

mammi
= a traditional Finnish black pudding made with flour, barley, molasses, orange flavoring, and other ingredients. Cream is often put on it. It is served around Easter time (in the spring).

poo
= うんち (a child’s word)

barley
= 大麦

porridge
= oatmeal, similar to おかゆ

rye bread
= 黒パン

oats
= からす麦

whatever = anything OK

banh mi
= Vietnamese baguette, similar to French bread but made with some rice flour

hollow
= 中空の

fillings
= 詰め物

salmiakki
= a salty licorice (カンゾウ) popular in Nordic countries. It is made with ammonium chloride, so it has a “stinging” taste, and people who are not familiar with it often do not like it 

balut
= duck fetus, アヒル退治

weird
= strange

reindeer balls
= トナカイの睾丸

ballsy
= similar to balls

ざる蕎麦
= In English called “chilled buckwheat noodles, served on bamboo”

to adapt well
= change easily, get used to, よく適合させる

うどん
= In English called “Japanese wheat noodles”

= 自ら
