Description: In Part 2 of a two-week series on serving low-income and first-generation college students, contributors to the new Lumina Foundation guidebook Beyond Financial Aid will join Student Affairs Live co-host Heather Shea Gasser for a discussion about student access, retention, and success. According to the Lumina Foundation website, “Beyond Financial Aid is a toolkit designed to help two- and four-year institutions close attainment gaps for low-income students.” The document provides six proven strategies that campuses can implement to help low-income students overcome the challenges created by limited financial resources. In addition, a comprehensive self-assessment tool will provide campus administrators with information and data about their own campuses as they work to understand the current status of low-income students. Joining Heather for this episode are Thomas Major, Jr., Priyadarshini Chaplot, and Robert Johnstone. Detailed bios of the three guests are below. This is the second episode of a two-part series about serving first-generation and low-income students. On September 2nd, Heather talks with four scholars, practitioners, and educators about #YOUBELONG: WELCOMING FIRST-GEN & LOW-INCOME STUDENTS TO CAMPUS.
