October 31, 2018: Hour 1

Description: This election day, voters in 37 states will decide on 155 ballot measures, including 64 citizen-initiated initiatives. Ballot measures are part of direct democracy, when policies and laws are decided by voters rather than legislatures. Also, we speak with Hiwaida Elarabi, a Sudanese Temporary Protected Status holder who has lived in the U.S. for 21 years and sold her restaurant when she learned the Trump administration planned to terminate her legal status. And funeral services for three more victims of Saturday's mass shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh continue Wednesday. Gab.com, the self-described "free speech social media platform" where the suspected shooter posted anti-Semitic messages before carrying out his deadly attack, has since been taken offline. That and more, in hour one of Here & Now's Oct. 31, 2018 full broadcast. You can read and hear more at hereandnow.org, follow us on Twitter and join the conversation on Facebook.
