AI in cybersecurity is not a new concept, almost every security vendor has been working on it for years. In fact, five years ago, AI was a godsend for detecting threats, but the sheer volume of new attacks became overwhelming. A 2019 Forrester Research report predicted AI’s role in escalating attacks, and it turns out that prediction was accurate. A revolution in AI happened a little over a year ago. It’s called generative AI and it’s what powers ChatGPT and all those other AI engines that are coming to market every day. This second wave of AI is being used by cybersecurity toolmakers but so are the bad guys and everything is going to change, yet again.
