At the age of 18 Ryan pursued an under-graduate degree in Sports development and PE at Leeds Metropolitan University with the hope of finding a career in sport. While there, his passion for sport and in particular coaching grew as he was able to experience many modules that allowed him to work in a variety of schools around Leeds with children aged between 5-15 years old, all with different social and economic backgrounds. Even at this early stage he was beginning to see the positive impact that high quality sport could have on young children’s lives. While still studying, an opportunity to coach football in America for UKElite soccer arose and he welcomed this with open arms. Ryan gained valuable experience liaising with children, parents and club owners and managed camps over a 3 month, and then later an 8 month period. On returning to the UK he made a decision to pursue a career in primary teaching and gained a place on a PGCE at Leeds University.
