My name is Mike Ginicola, and I served in the U.S. Army for 3 years before attending college at Southern CT State University (SCSU) for physical education. I've always known I wanted to teach P.E. thanks to some great mentors in similar fields when I was younger. I won the 'Outstanding Student Major' award at SCSU for CT through CTAHPERD and at the Eastern District before being hired to teach in Stratford, CT. I'm still there, and have been teaching for 18 years.
I've been very active with a YouTube channel for my school community, but recently decided to stretch out and create a Twitter account as well. Twitter has been an amazing network tool for connecting to exemplary educators around the world. I created this website for P.E. resources...I love using the Comic Life software to create posters, signs and other documents for school, and this website showcases my work thus far. I love using technology in school! Plickers, QR codes, Wii Just Dance and Zumba games, YouTube videos, and anything else I can get my hands on!
I'm a husband to a wonderful wife (she's like the 1990's Doogie Howser, M.D. of School Psychologists and Counselors) and father to 2 very active boys. I love to hang out with my family as much as possible, but I also spend a lot of time searching the web and finding my own professional development since special area teachers are often not given great resources for development in school districts.
I've been an active member of CTAHPERD, going to the annual conference almost every year since I started college (waiting for someone to finally beat me at the sportstacking exhibit challenge!). I'm just now starting to break out of my shell and do presentations...better late than never, right?. In 2016 I became the first ever recipient of the CT PTA Educator of the Year Award (they used to only recognize administrators), a testament to my involvement in our local school community. I'm involved in almost all PTA events, including attending monthly meetings. |
