When IoT devices were first being designed, security wasn’t their biggest concern. Because of this, it is possible for unauthorized individuals to break into your device’s vulnerable points. While this may not be a huge concern for devices like baby monitors, it will be critical for devices such as autonomous cars. Oaken Innovations’ solution is to use ethereum blockchain, and other distributive storage and centralized solutions, to make sure that transactions have true machine-to-machine payment and security, while simultaneously having this security layer function in the background. They have tested their solutions on cars, and even on utility meters, and have won a government-sponsored Hackathon.
