DTCC, the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation, begun over 40 years ago, is an established player in the global financial infrastructure, performing key roles as a primary clearing house and settlement organization for stock market trades, processing for the derivative swap market, and other services for the insurance and financial industries.

Wholly owned by the financial industry, DTCC is taking a leading role in integrating blockchain and distributed ledger technology into the industry, especially with stock market trades and credit default swaps. In particular, distributed ledger technology holds a lot of promise in the industry–though allowing various ledgers from different trading companies to automatically reconcile with one another is the challenge.
