In the previous passage, Paul confirmed that the old man we were in Adam was crucified with Christ. In this passage, Paul specifically uses the term the body of sin, which means the body as we live in today. Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones speaks at length to distinguish between the old man and the body of sin that Paul is referring to. As a Christian, your old self is dead, but your mortal body has not yet been delivered from the effects of sin and the fall. Sin still has a rule on our body and so we should be longing for the redemption of our bodies, which will come! Paul warns that it is because of this exact purpose that we should no longer be living in sin and letting the members of our body be instruments of sin! Why would we act like the man who has already died? A day is soon coming when our bodies will be glorified, just as Christs body was glorified when he ascended into Heaven. Let us continue to fight the sin that tempts our carnal bodies and long for the day when we will be free from the effects ofsin.
