'Cool' business brings young people back to rural areas

Description: Abattoirs are busier than usual for the time of year as farmers are desperately looking for ways to save fodder. The dry, hot weather has meant the grass isn't growing, and fodder shortages are a problem nationwide. Farmers are taking the drastic solution of killing their cattle to save having to pay to feed them. It's an incredibly difficult choice but, for many, it's a practical (and possibly only) piece of long term planning. A new study into the hopes, fears and needs of young people living in rural areas has found that a 'cool' business can act like a magnet to draw young people back into the countryside. We're talking about on-farm production in the programme this week. Today we hear from a pig farming family who specialise in hog roasts. Presented by Caz Graham and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
