Description: The Government’s set up a strategic review of food and farming in Northern Ireland. It’ll be led by Sir Peter Kendall, farmer and former Chair of the Agriculture And Horticulture Development Board. The review will look at the challenges facing farming and food processing, and give a roadmap for the future, including improving productivity, sustainability, technology and looking at new opportunities for markets. The 6th of May will see a bumper crop of elections across England, Wales and Scotland, and all week we will be highlighting the issues for rural voters. Today, we’re concentrating on the local elections in England, where councils are in charge of many decisions which affect rural dwellers. It’s two months until the expected start of Wimbledon, yet British Strawberries, the traditional accompaniment to the summer tennis season, are already jostling for space with Spanish supplies on some supermarket shelves. The growing trend for heated polytunnels means home-grown strawberries are now available for three quarters of the year. Nancy Nicolson has been to Fife to meet farmer Ian Brown. Presented by Anna Hill and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
