14/08/20 Rural tourism in the Lake District; A-level results; Farm theatres

Description: All this week Farming Today has been looking at the impact that Covid 19 is having on rural tourism. In today's progrmme, Caz Graham visits the village of Mallam in the Yorkshire Dales - where farmer and chair of the National Park, Neil Heseltine, shows her the effect which an influx of tourists has on the local infrastructure. She also learns why government guidelines mean that Neil and his partner have still not yet been able to re-open their farm accommodation to the public. This year's A-level results have been more complicated than normal, with students in the unprecented situation of not having actually taken their exams. Caz finds out where this leaves young people wanting to study agriculture, and learns how - when it comes to social distancing - agricultural courses have the advantage of already being taught partly outside. We meet the farmer in Shropshire who is building an outdoor amphitheatre on his land, in the hope it can stage productions while traditional theatres remain closed because of the pandemic.
