08/10/19 Modern slavery, oil seed rape feed, grape wine harvest

Description: A new report says large farming businesses need to take more responsibility to help address modern slavery. Andrew Phillips, research fellow at the University of Nottingham's Rights Lab, undertook research which found that too many companies' statements about the issue are not up to scratch. Every year the UK imports millions of tonnes of soya, a lot from South America, and soya products account for 60% of the protein meals fed to British livestock. One feed company in Stratford-upon-Avon has developed a rapeseed based feed which might serve as a viable and sustainable alternative. The wine harvest started in some parts of the country just a week ago, but torrential rain over the last few days put that on hold. It's very unlike last year which was an exceptional one for vineyards. Presented by Anna Hill and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
