Compensation for Culled Cows, Rural Broadband, HS2 Payments, Potatoes

Category: Science & Medicine

Description: Farmers in Wales have been claiming compensation for pregnant cows culled because of TB - except that 38% of those cows weren't pregnant. Charlotte Smith asks Dafydd Jarrett from National Farmers Union Cymru whether this means farmers have been cheating the system. As part of a week looking at issues affecting young people Clare Freeman visited a tea-room which is struggling to operate with poor broadband coverage. Andrew Shirley from the Countryside Land and Business Association explains that delays in compensation payments to people whose land is being compulsory purchased to make way for HS2, the high-speed rail network, aren't unusual. Charlotte also asks Tim Papworth whether dire warnings for this year's potato crop were merited. And some breaking DEFRA news - there's a new Minister! Producer: Toby Field
