From a very young age we're taught to believe that success is a big house, nice car, steady paycheck...so much of our stereotypical ideals of 'success' revolve around consumerism.
What if success meant helping to rid the oceans of plastic? Or reducing homelessness? What if it was about preventing climate change or deforestation? Or protecting animals for future generations?
Success looks different for everyone. Global Action Plan are encouraging young people to re-evaluate the idea of success that they've learnt from advertising messaging, and reconnect with a more ethical way of living. It's an important message all year round, but especially during the holidays.
At this time of year we're bombarded with advertising and pressure to spend. It's encouraging us to get into debt, buy things we don't need (that will end up in landfill) and it's leaving us feeling stressed and anxious. Surely there's a better way?
The good news is that more people than ever are spending their money with ethical companies and demanding change from big brands. Plus there are alternatives at Christmas time.
Abi from Global Action Plan joins me on the #EthicalHour podcast to talk about how to have a more fun, enjoyable and meaningful Christmas - have a listen to find out all about their #ElflessActs campaign and maybe even give one of your own!
