His first Olympic start was in Stockholm 1956, when he was just 21 years old. Other career highlights include two gold and one silver medal in Pan American Games, becoming European Champion and four times Brazilian National Champion. He was a master of Derby classes winning the the prestigious Hamburg Derby a record seven times and the Hickstead Derby three times. His international career also includes over 150 Grand Prix wins in Europe and 100 Puissance competitions. Among his well known partners were Gran Geste, Vivaldi, Nagir and Special Envoy.
