In weightlifting, progressive overload means that every time you step into the gym, you try to do more than the last time you worked out. This could mean that you're adding more weight to each set, or it could mean that you're doing more repetitions of each exercise. Either way, this means going into the gym and doing slightly more than you did last time in order to make some sort of improvement. Although this is just a term used for the gym to build more strength or muscle, this technique can also be used to build confidence or any other skill needed in your day to day life. For example, take a guy who has difficulty talking to girls. He has never had a girlfriend, and he always seems to freeze up when trying to hold a conversation. For that guy to go out, ask the prettiest girl he sees out to dinner, and sit down and eat a full meal while holding a conversation, he would need a lot of practice.. that's not something that he would be able to do right away. So instead of diving in deep and crashing and burning, he would need to start small in order to slowly gain confidence and to get adjusted to the situation. Maybe first he goes to his local grocery store and asks a random girl a simple question. Then when he's comfortable with that, he tries to hold a conversation for a minute or two. After that, maybe he asks a girl on a short coffee date. Then dinner. And after he goes through this entire process and slowly adds more work, he'll find that this progressive overload will allow him to be more comfortable in these types of situations. Progressive overload is a concept that can applied to anything else in life. In any area where you want to make a change or you want to improve, it can be used to consistently grow your skill sets and mindset. And of course this isn't an easy process. Applying progressive overload requires that you take time to analyze your situation, create small action steps that you can execute, and consistently show up and do your best. It takes constant effort to push the boundaries of your comfort zone until you feel more comfortable. It takes mistakes, effort, and most of all, it takes time. But if you stick with your action plan and you don't give up when times get tough, progressive overload will always lead to long-term success. Connect With Me On Social:
