SummaryOne of the biggest problems that people deal with when trying to create a new habit is following through with their decision or thought. Whether that means actually turning that thought into a first step, or turning that first step into a million more, following through is such an important aspect of creating success. So how can you increase the chances that you actually follow through? "Common sense isn't always common practice." 5 Things To Help You Follow Through1. Take The First Step - Sometimes, the first step is the most important thing you can do when you want to follow through with something. Unfortunately, sometimes it's also the hardest step you can make. Whether you're scared to start, you don't make the actual effort to start, or you just don't know where to start, pushing past that initial barrier and taking that first step is crucial to take it to the next level. 2. Start Small - Not only should you make sure that you start, but you should also make sure that you start small. When we try to take on new things, we often get excited, and decide that we are going to take on everything at once. Although this might work in the beginning, as we lose that initial excitement and motivation, it becomes more difficult for us to sustain that change. Starting small is one hundred percent necessary in order to sustain a change. 3. Write It Down - When we decide that we want to start or continue doing something, we create a thought in our minds. That thought stays exactly as it is; just a thought. But when we write it down, we put it into existence. Not only does it become reality, but it also serves as a reminder to us of our decision. Writing new ideas or goals that we want to follow through with down will greatly increase the chances of it actually happening. 4. Tell Someone - Sometimes all we need is a little extra push from the people around us. If we've set a goal or we want to follow through with something, sometimes it's just as simple as telling somebody else. That outside accountability serves as a reminder and as an extra layer of protection for the times that we may not want to or may forget to follow through with something. 5. Set Black & White Goals - Often, the goals we set aren't too clear. They may be specific, but during certain times, there's room to still technically complete those goals by using loopholes and exceptions. When we set goals, we want to make sure that they are pass/fail. That no matter what happens, there aren't times where we can complete those goals with an asterisk next to them - it's completely clear if we're successful or not. The sole idea behind following through is holding ourselves accountable for the thoughts that we have in our lives. Common sense may not always be common practice, but if we take note of the important things and the effect that they can potentially have on our lives, it one day may be. Did you like this post?
