Description: Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta has ditched Kenya’s oldest party KANU.In a statement on his Facebook page, Kenyatta said that he was not going to seek any elective post in the upcoming party elections. He said that it was up to Secretary General Nick Salat to ensure that the party complies with the Political Parties Act before the April 30 deadline.“I will, therefore, not seek any position in Kanu. It is thus incumbent upon the Secretary-General, as mandated by the NEC meeting at Naivasha last December, to ensure that Kenya’s mother party complies,” the statement said. The former finance minister accused Salat of standing in the way of the party’s progress terming his actions as the reason to why the party had twice postponed scheduled National Delegates Conferences. Kenyatta said that the National Executive Council Meeting (NEC) and parliamentary group meeting was held at his own cost first to initiate the process of complying with the act and ending the party’s internal wrangles. He also accused Salat of being economical with the truth.“I have twice called the National Delegates Conference, but called them off because of sideshows instigated by the Secretary-General, who has been an obstacle to the process of compliance,” said Kenyatta who also told Salat that his or others’ ambition in the party can only be achieved if the party complies with the law.
