In this podcast,  we're going to talk about why a child may have dark circles underneath the eyes. 


It has to do with an iron deficiency. It does not mean that the child has anemia, but they may have anemia. Iron is involved in different chemical pathways and enzymes.  

Iron deficiency symptoms 

• Fatigue 

• Dizziness

• Pale 

• Irritable 

• Ice cravings

• Delayed growth 


Why a child may be iron deficient (causes of dark circles):

• Not consuming foods that have iron 

• Consuming foods that block iron 

• Digestive problems that won't let them simulate iron 

• Consuming antacids or antibiotics 

• Consuming grains – Grains have phytates, which bind the iron making it hard to absorb it.
