–We’re back after a nearly one month hiatus while Bobby went gallivanting across Florida with starfish on his head. So after being separated for so long, what do we talk about now that we’re back together? Pizza.
–Next, we bring up the suicides of Kate Spade and, one that hit us a bit closer to home, Anthony Bourdain. Jason talks about how this one not only took him by surprise, but actively made him mad.
–Is social media making us lonelier and more isolated? Bobby deleted the social media apps from his phone, while Jason admits cutting back substantially.
–Are we spending too much time on our phones? Bobby brings up a story involving Apple creating software that aims to make people more mindful of the smartphone addiction.
–Bobby goes upstairs to figure out the hubbub outside the studio/basement door. Jason talks about how he is trying to practice compassion by choosing to be more compassionate toward people he dislikes. Like Donald Trump. Bobby hears this from upstairs and calls bullshit.
–The Nelson family make a brief appearance
–Jason tries to pick up where he left off earlier, saying that Bobby yelling “bullshit” reminded him of the time Obama’s State of the Union was interrupted with “you lie!” This prompts us to talk about the recent conversations about “civil discourse,” focusing on the story of Sarah Sanders and family being tossed out of a Fairfax restaurant, and the Masterpiece “gay wedding cake” case.
–Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy signals his intent to retire. Trump intends to fill the vacancy with a hardline conservative. We predict what that means for the future. Bobby foresees marriage equality and abortion rights being threatened. Jason agrees on Roe v Wade, and adds that the court will take on more gun rights issues, such as assault weapon bans and/or concealed carry cases.
–What will The Conners be like without Roseanne? We’re pretty sure it will suck. But we’ll give it a chance.
In our second segment, we welcome back cryptozoologist and writer Ken Gerhard to the show. We ask Ken what mythical monster he thinks has the best chance to be real, dig a bit into the “infighting” within the subculture, and just why it is that monster hunters seem to have more style than other investigators of weird things. All in all, a fun interview with one of our favorite guests.
