The Tourism Business Improvement District reviewed the billboards available on Interstate 10, when they would be available, for how long and the cost. It was decided to book the Cabazon East facing billboard from February 23rd to March 30th 2026 and again for the months of May, June and July 2026. It was also decided to spend half the budget on a billboard nearer the metro LA area.
The TBID Advisory Board discussed modifying venue eligibility to include the Joshua Tree Lake RV and Campground on Sunfair road. The new venue was approved for Event Grant sponsorship, but it was considered to be very important that Twentynine Palms must be part of the focus and that guests of the Campground events should either have lodging in Twentynine Palms or at the very least hold some type of food and beverage or hospitality event in the City.
The Tourism Business Improvement District was asked to review, discuss and approve the Twentynine Palms Music Series Committee’s request for $20,000 to support the first year of a 3-year outdoor concert series sponsored by the Leavitt foundation. Here Audrey Philpot explains how extraordinary it is that a small community like Twentynine Palms should be chosen to receive the Leavitt sponsorship:
Audrey Philpot
“I’m Audrey Philpot and I am a resident and a property owner in Twentynine Palms and “I am the chairperson of the Twentynine Palms Music series committee, which is an affiliate of the Basin Wide Foundation. That is how we are able to be eligible te receive not only the funding from the Leavitt foundation but the incredible support and the possibility of building this beyond the 3-year grant to become a signature event.
“The music series is 10 concerts per year in the Spring and the Fall. Leavitt Foundation is providing most of the funding for this and we have already been accepted. We are one of 3 locations in Southern California that is getting the grant money. We came in number 12 out of 100 finalists, semifinalists in the voting phase. That is an incredible amount of community support that has been demonstrated. That is by everybody’s reckoning almost unbelievable that we achieved those kinds of numbers.”
The TBID Board approved matching the $20,000 grant to support the first year of the outdoor concert series.
