Description:

Two local photographers are debuting a new show tonight at the Hi-Desert Artists Gallery. The show is called, “From the Desert to the Sea,” and juxtaposes Bob Stevens’s coastal water photos with Tami Roleff’s photos of hi-desert flora. News Director Jef Harmatz spoke with both of them earlier this week. if you recognize Roleff’s voice, that’s because she worked as the Managing News Editor here at Z107.7 for many years. Here’s Tami and Bob:

Tami Roleff: “When people who are not from the desert they think, ‘Blah! Ugly! Nothing grows there!’ That’s not true at all. It’s got its own beauty. Just coming upon wildlife… coyotes and sheep and desert foxes and all these wonderful animals that you never see if you don’t live in a rural area like we do. I’m trying to show people that there is lots of beauty in the desert.”

Bob Stevens: “The photographs that I’m going to share are what I like to say are the essence of a place; that can be as subtle as a cloud or a reflection of light on water. That’s what people can expect to see from from my work. Tammy’s work is amazing. I personally haven’t been drawn to photograph Joshua Trees because of people like her. Her work is so stunning. That’s why we are a great pairing. It’s that the works very very different and that’s what I’m excited about with the shows. People are going to see a wide range. Hence the desert to the sea…”

The opening reception is tonight from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hi-Desert Artists Gallery, right off Highway 62 at Geronimo Trail.

CasaZulu will be playing live music during the evening and there’ll be serving food and drinks.
