Tonight, the Twentynine Palms City Council will gather to discuss numerous topics after moving their meeting a day later in honor of Veterans Day.
The Twentynine Palms City Council will kick off their mid-week meeting with a presentation from the city’s Finance Department of the City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for FY 2024-25.
Next up, a public hearing on the adoption of the 2025 California Building Codes published by the International Code Council.
Council will then consider the possible relocation of the Twentynine Palms Visitor Center, currently located at 73484 Twentynine Palms Highway. Among five options presented, staff is favoring a move to the Freedom Plaza Gymnasium front lobby roll-up desk area.
Next, council will review updates to the City Fee Waiver Policy No. 1 and Facility Rental Rules and Regulations. Specifically, amendments to the waiver policy that address eligibility, submission requirements, and annual limits for nonprofits. Also, clarifying deposit, cancellation, insurance, and operational requirements for all city facility rentals.
The city and the Twentynine Palms Water District have joined forces to address risks to shallow groundwater aquifers from septic systems within city limits and such efforts will be discussed at the meeting.
Council will select a subcommittee of two council members to assist with the design of the new and long-awaited animal shelter, an upgraded Palms-N-Paws.
This subcommittee will meet with the project coordinator monthly to review current design work, provide feedback and budgetary oversight.
There will be an update on the city’s efforts to create affordable housing. The discussion will address a possible request for proposal (RFP) for developing three acres west of City Hall and a secondary RFP for service providers to develop programs aiding seniors and/or low-income homeowners to stay in their homes.
Finally, council will discuss a proposed holiday schedule which would allow
city employees to leave work three hours early the day before a city-observed holiday. (This would vary by each departments’ hours and work requirements that day.) The city currently observes the following holidays: Christmas Eve, Christmas
Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. City Manager Stone James will seek council permission to close city facilities to the public on Friday, December 26th and return on Monday, January 5, 2026.The meeting takes place on Wednesday, November 12, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, 6136 Adobe Road.
