Partners Against Violence offers 24-hour crisis response, counseling, and court advocacy for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Last year, the nonprofit provided more than 6,500 direct services and reached over 38,000 students and community members through prevention and awareness programs.
For many survivors, Partners Against Violence is a lifeline. A local woman asked not to be identified. She says the nonprofit changed her life.
“I was offered to me through the sheriff’s department. It was a tool I knew I needed. I knew someone was going to be there who could help me through something I didn’t understand. It changed my life. Without @Partnersagainstviolence, I don’t know where I would be today.”
“So the services that were offered to me… they attended my forensic exam at the hospital with me, so I didn’t have to be alone. They attended a meeting at the district attorney’s office and explained some things I didn’t quite understand. They went to court with me. They sat there and cheered me on and made sure I wasn’t alone.
The young woman says she didn’t know this kind of support existed in the Morongo Basin, and wants others to know that help is available.
“…when you are going through something really bad, reach out to them. They are here to help. The counseling offered here is top-notch. It’s amazing.”
Partners Against Violence says the Fall-La-La-La Fiesta is critical for funding services, especially after federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funds were frozen and reduced. Money raised through the event helps the organization continue providing crisis counseling, court readiness, prevention programs, and 24-hour advocacy for survivors of all ages.
When I asked this young woman about her future, the young woman said,
“I’m extremely hopeful, I know I’m going to be ok, and no matter what the outcome, I know the truth.”
