A new gallery and creative gathering space is celebrating their grand opening tonight in Joshua Tree.
Juniper Arts, a gallery, gift shop, and community space, will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, November 8, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. The event coincides with the Morongo Basin’s popular Second Saturday Art Walk.
Located along Highway 62 in the heart of Joshua Tree, Juniper Arts was founded to reflect the desert’s creative spirit. It features fine art, ceramics, jewelry, textiles, and handcrafted items by both local and national artists.
Executive Director Mindy Kittay says the gallery’s mission goes beyond selling art.
“Our focus is to present work you’re not already seeing up here in the hi desert. It could be local artists who aren’t showing up here, but we are also inviting regional and national artists as well.”
Since quietly opening its doors two weeks ago, the gallery has already drawn visitors from across the country and abroad. Kittay says their first sale was to a local couple even before officially opening, and they’ve since welcomed buyers from Los Angeles and London.
Juniper Arts was founded by designer Mark Walsh and, in Kittay’s words, has been “a true labor of love — created by artists, for artists.” Walsh envisioned a space where art, community, and culture can thrive. The team plans to host live music, poetry readings, and exhibitions featuring artists who are also authors.
Juniper Arts is open to the public now, with its official grand opening reception taking place Saturday, November 8, during Joshua Tree’s Second Saturday Art Walk.
