Local artist Janis Commentz, a forty-year desert resident and retired teacher, will exhibit her latest paintings at the Saloon Salon inside Spaghetti Western in Morongo Valley this November and December.
Her new show, “Montmartre Mood Meets the Mojave,” blends the color and texture of the high desert with inspiration from her travels through France.
“It’s a fusion of my desert work and my work from France. Mostly new work. I have a few older pieces. It’s different to blend the French stuff with the Mojave stuff.”
Commentz, known for her vivid color palette and loose brushwork, has taught painting workshops for the Desert Institute and Big Morongo Canyon Preserve. Her work has been featured internationally, including on the Musée de Cluny’s Instagram page in Paris and in La Vie Creative magazine.
