Two murals move forward at Yucca Valley Planning Commission meeting

Description:

First up, an agenda item to drop something from future agendas. The event space known as Tumbleweed Sanctuary off Pueblo Trail will be dropped from future Planning Commission agendas as the applicant wants to add off-site parking back into the project, which will require more revisions. The Commission approved.

Two murals approved

The Joshua Tree National Park Association’s building at 55922 Twentynine Palms Highway has proposed a mural with local flora and fauna on it along with text identifying the business. The mural is planned for the east-facing side of the building.

A mural that you may have already seen was also approved. An art gallery located at 55386 Twentynine Palms Highway used to originally be a fire station, and was later used as a motorcycle repair and sales shop in the 70’s. A mural painted on the side depicts famous Byrd and Burrito Brother Graham Parsons on a chopper. Because the mural already exists, this is just bringing everything up to code.

The Planning commission had positive comments for the murals and both were recommended that the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Commission review the proposed mural’s content, designs, and artist qualifications.

Land Development Update

Not a lot of updates for the Land Development report, according to Town Staff. Nice Dream Ices is anticipated to be operational the first week of October, and Starbucks says they plan to begin construction in September. The Town has received tenant improvement plans for an El Pollo Loco for the former Pizza Hut building.

For future agenda items: Sun Mesa Mini Storage and Dutch Bros. may be concluding their California Environmental Quality Association (CEQA) requirements in the next couple of months, and an update to the Town’s general plan is expected to arrive sometime in December or January.

The next Yucca Valley Planning Commission meeting will be on Tuesday, October 14th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Yucca Valley Community Center.
