Description:

Last night, the Morongo Unified School District Board of Trustees held their September meeting at Joshua Tree Elementary.

The meeting began by honoring Deputy Pinedo with a Certificate of Appreciation. Pinedo has served as the CPS Deputy for the last four years, handling all criminal child abuse chases, partnering closely with MUSD administration to train staff to recognize and report child abuse.

Certificated Representative Jennifer Beasley reported MTA members are starting a Special Education Committee to “gain knowledge, gather research, and work to resolve problems students and teachers encounter in special education.” Beasley also said they are gathering signatures for the funding of Proposition 55 and reminded the Board that if it’s not extended by 2030, the district could lose up to 11.3 million in school funding.

Director of Facilities, Maintenance, and Operations Mike Ogdahl gave a reassuring update on Bond Measure C Series A projects, reporting an impressive amount of work being done to improve district infrastructure. Ogdahl mentioned construction has started on Twentynine Palms Junior High, on schedule with budget; forms and foundation are to be completed this week with framing to start early next week. Engineer and architectural drawings are anticipated for new shade structures at various campuses, with La Contenta Middle School recently added to the list. Stadium improvements are underway for Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms High School, including flood control, new concession stands, and more. Twentynine Palms Junior High will be getting a relocatable restroom facility alongside their new kitchen project. Finally, new HVAC systems will be installed in the gyms at all three secondary schools as well as Onaga Elementary, replacing the swamp coolers.
