Extreme heat drops on the hi-desert, cooling center opens in Twentynine Palms

An extreme heat warning is in effect for the Morongo Basin, with temperatures set to top out at 112 in Twentynine Palms according to the National Weather Service. The City of Twentynine Palms has announced that they will be opening the City’s cooling center Wednesday (August 6) and Thursday (August 7) to provide relief for locals. The cooling center will be open to everyone from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and it is located at the Twentynine Palms Senior Center, located at 6539 Adobe Rd.

Additionally, all San Bernardino County libraries in the Morongo Basin serve as cooling centers. That includes the Twentynine Palms Branch, located at 6078 Adobe Rd., the Joshua Tree Branch, located at 6465 Park Blvd. and the Yucca Valley Branch, located at 57271 Twentynine Palms Highway.

Our local libraries are open Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
