The Town of Yucca Valley’s Fourth of July fireworks show failed to launch as planned, sparking disappointment and upset for the crowd of approximately 1,400 attendees. Yucca Valley’s July 4 celebration was held at Yucca Valley High School and featured a performance by the band Pulp Vixen.
The fireworks show by PyroSpectaculars of Rialto was contracted to begin at 9:00 p.m. and last for twenty minutes, in coordination with synchronized music by Z107.7 and the fireworks display at Tortoise Rock Casino in Twentynine Palms, also by PyroSpectaculars. While the vendor indicated the event was proceeding on schedule, the fireworks display did not begin at 9:00 p.m., with representatives citing a slight delay. The launch did not occur until 11:00 p.m. when technicians set off a shortened, seven-minute display for remaining attendees, which proceeded in part due to safety concerns about the prepped fireworks. The display at Tortoise Rock Casino was executed without any notable issues.
PyroSpectaculars has had a long-standing relationship with the hi-desert communities and accepted total responsibility for the failed contract, indicating that the company has been affected by staffing shortages. Both the vendor and the Town have expressed that they are pursuing alternative remedies for the launch, including the potential for a rescheduled fireworks display for the Yucca Valley community.
As Community Services Manager Sue Earnest noted in a press release sent Saturday afternoon from the Town, “We are deeply disappointed in the outcome of our July 4th event and will work diligently with the vendor to ensure a spectacular show returns to the Yucca Valley community soon.” |
